چکیده

We present a novel surface mesh segmentation algorithm that, when combined with the Centroidal Voronoi Tessellation (CVT) remeshing method, produces surface meshes that more closely approximate the input surface mesh than when using CVT alone, using both topological and geometric measures of closeness. By segmenting the input surface before CVT remeshing, fewer triangles are required for the remeshed surface to be homeomorphic to the input and mean Hausdorff error is improved. Surfaces with specific geometric properties show the greatest improvement. This paper discusses these properties, describes the segmentation algorithm and presents experimental results.

Centroidal Voronoi Tessellation of Line Segments and Graphs

Centroidal Voronoi Tessellation (CVT) of points has many applications in geometry processing, including remeshing and segmentation, to name but a few. In this paper, we generalize the CVT concept to graphs via a variational characterization. Given a graph and a 3D polygonal surface, our method optimizes the placement of the vertices of the graph in such a way that the graph segments best approx...

Isotropic Remeshing with Fast and Exact Computation of Restricted Voronoi Diagram

We propose a new isotropic remeshing method, based on Centroidal Voronoi Tessellation (CVT). Constructing CVT requires to repeatedly compute Restricted Voronoi Diagram (RVD), defined as the intersection between a 3D Voronoi diagram and an input mesh surface. Existing methods use some approximations of RVD. In this paper, we introduce an efficient algorithm that computes RVD exactly and robustly...

Surface Segmentation for Improved Remeshing

Many remeshing techniques sample the input surface in a meaningful way and then triangulate the samples to produce an output triangulated mesh. One class of methods samples in a parametrization of the surface. Another class samples directly on the surface. These latter methods must have sufficient density of samples to achieve outputs that are homeomorphic to the input. In many datasets samples...

Gradient of the Objective Function for an Anisotropic Centroidal Voronoi Tessellation (CVT) - A revised, detailed derivation

In their recent article (2010), Levy and Liu introduced a generalization of Centroidal Voronoi Tessellation (CVT) namely the Lp-CVT that allows the computation of an anisotropic CVT over a sound mathematical framework. In this article a new objective function is defined, and both this function and its gradient are derived in closed-form for surfaces and volumes. This method opens a wide range o...

Lp Centroidal Voronoi Tessellation and its applications

This paper introduces Lp-Centroidal Voronoi Tessellation (LpCVT), a generalization of CVT that minimizes a higher-order moment of the coordinates on the Voronoi cells. This generalization allows for aligning the axes of the Voronoi cells with a predefined background tensor field (anisotropy). Lp-CVT is computed by a quasi-Newton optimization framework, based on closed-form derivations of the ob...
